The reporting process allows or Management and Supervision to:

  • Determine the appropriate immediate actions to take
  • Be informed of identified hazards in the workplace. 
  • Implement appropriate corrective actions of hazards.
  • Educate workers on the hazards and proper procedures for protection.

No matter how serious or insignificant an accident or hazardous condition may appear, always report the incident so any immediate actions needed can be taken and future actions to protect workers can be implementd.

Always:

  • Report incidents, injuries, near misses, and hazards promptly to a supervisor.
  • Be aware hazards that exist or could develop in the work environment. 
  • Take responsibility for safety and watch out for others.

Events to Report:

  • Fatality
  • Injury or illness
  • First aid measures administered
  • Equipment or property damage
  • Motor vehicle accident involving a worker
  • Near miss that could have resulted in an injury, illness, or property damage
  • Hazard that could lead to an injury, illness, or property damage

Accident Reporting Steps

The severity level of accidents varies; therefore, the steps taken after an accident will depend on the dangers present, company policy, and the ability of those on the scene.

  • Call 911 and notify emergency personnel immediately if necessary.
  • Report the event to supervision in accordance with company policy.
  • Be familar with the company’s accident reporting policy.
  • Abide by directives from the company, authorities on scene, and treating physicians.
  • Remain calm and in control.
  • Help move people to a safe distance, if necessary and if possible.
